Cornelius Timothy

“To live is Christ, to die is gain” (Philippians 1:21)

Tim (Cornelius Timothy) De Jong went to his heavenly home during the early hours of December 25, 2024, after a brief and courageous battle with cancer.

Tim is survived by his beloved wife Catherine (Cami), his children Elysha and Will, his stepchildren Dustin and Laura (Matt), his three grandchildren who brought such joy to his life - Emma, Jack, and Maeve - who lovingly called him 'Opa', his father Durk and his siblings, Alice, Rick, and Mark (Natalie). He is also fondly remembered by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Tim’s life will be held on January 18, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Grace Presbyterian Church, 1009 15 Ave SW, Calgary, Alberta. For those unable to attend in person, a livestream will be available, click below for details:

Tim was born in Calgary on September 2, 1962. After graduating from Calgary Christian School, he began his career at Miller’s Electronics in British Columbia, where he developed his sales expertise. Encouraged by a friend, he later joined his father at De Jong’s Insurance, where he helped build a respected business that has served the community for decades.

Tim’s entrepreneurial spirit led him to pursue several ventures, including renovating a 48-suite downtown building that became Corporate Suites of Calgary and owning a pet store in Okotoks called Animal House.

While Tim thrived in business, his greatest success was the friendships he built along the way. Known for his loyalty, integrity, and zest for life, Tim formed deep connections with people from all walks of life. He also had a lifelong passion for sports and outdoor activities, including skiing, hockey, and golf.

A devoted Calgary Stampeders fan, Tim’s energy and enthusiasm shone as he led chants of "WE WANT THE HORSE!" He cherished summers with his family at Cozy Cabins in Lumby, British Columbia. He also found joy in dinners, shows, and travel. One of his favourite adventures was a Caribbean cruise in March 2020, where he sailed the blue seas just as the world began to shut down.

Tim found joy in supporting his favourite charities and was deeply involved in his faith community. As a member of Emmanuel Christian Reformed Church in Calgary, he worshipped with his family and drew strength from his faith, which was his foundation throughout life.
